Credits are earned through demonstration of mastery. This means each student must produce evidence that they have learned something and can apply that new knowledge to real-world problems and projects.
Letter grades attempt to reflect this mastery in that an ‘A’ means a student has 90-100% mastery of their learning outcomes. A ‘B’ means a student has mastered 80-89% of their learning outcomes. On the other end of the spectrum, an ‘F’ means that a student did not produce enough evidence to begin to determine mastery. Students can earn an ‘I’ for incomplete, which means work towards mastery is still in progress.
Performance assessment is key to our assessment practices. Performance assessments are long-term, public, and relevant assessment methods that provide the opportunity for students to demonstrate a synthesis of what they have learned through experience.
